Fifth World Farmers' Forum

foro rural mundial

Between the 15th and 20th of February 2014 the fifth World Farmers' Forum was held in Rome. The CLAEH IFAD Mercosur Programme participated in this important biennial event.

The meeting convened representatives of family farmers and small producers from five continents, representatives of governments and international organizations engaged in this topic. It was inaugurated by the President of IFAD, Kanayo Nwanze.

The Farmers' Forum was founded in 2005, and meets every two years for a global consultation, together with the Governing Council of IFAD. This time, more than 90 leaders of farmers, representing millions of smallholders and rural producers from around the world will gather to celebrate the International Year of Family Farming, to interact with IFAD staff and selected partners.

The 2014 edition has offered a space for discussion on operational issues and for a dialogue on thematic issues of interest to both farmer organizations (FOs) and IFAD. The topics were selected by the Steering Committee in the context of the International Year of Family Farming 2014 and in relation to the overall theme of the 37th session of the Governing Council of IFAD "Investing in small-scale family farming for the future we pursue.”
