A family farmers’ meeting will be held in Tacuarembó, Uruguay, as part of the preparations for the International Family Farmers’ Year, which is to be celebrated in 2014.

The event will be a preliminary opportunity to put the topics that elicit the greatest interest of family farmers in the institutional agenda.

To that end, an Inter Institutional Working Group (or GTI, for its acronym in Spanish) was put together, engaging the National Institute for Agricultural Research (INIA), the Municipality of Tacuarembó (IDT), the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fishery (MGAP) and the Latin American Center for Human Economy (CLAEH).

With the support of the Global Rural Forum, CLAEH’s Northeastern Regional Division is implementing the Project for the Strengthening of Family Farmers’ Systems in the Micro region of Caraguatá, in the department of Tacuarembó. It was there that they presented the idea of holding this meeting, gathering family farmers in September 2013.
